Hi Surya,

Thanks for dropping by at my blog.

I've started with my first SLR (a digital one at that) just 6 months ago, so I am hardly what you would call a "seasoned" photographer (the only season my camera has seen with me is winters - ok BAD joke :)).

I use a Canon 350D. At the moment I have just two lenses - the 17-45mm f/4L (this is what I usually roam around with) and 50mm f/1.8 (which I usually use for low light shooting without tripod or for portrait work). I shoot raw and post process in Paint Shop Pro 9.

While I am usually fine with the sharpness that the lens gives "out of the box", I often find it necessary to apply a mild "unsharp-mask" to pictures taken with aperture open to widest possible that a lens allows (e.g. if I am shooting with my 17-45mm at f/4, I'll usually need an unsharp mask)

Let me know if you want to find out anything else.

Cheers,
Deepak

Superb pics! I see that you mostly shoot landscapes, which is very different from my usual work.

As for the clarity/sharpness of the zooms, my new Tamron is probably an exception. It is *very* sharp. According to the guys at www.photo.net, it even beats the Canon 50mm, f/1.8 at the corresponding settings, which is a *huge* compliment to a zoom.

Selecting a lens is a big pain. I'm considering used and/or manual focus lenses as well, solely for the price advantage.
